What to check
- Supply capacity. Many older homes have a 60 or 80 amp main fuse. A heat pump, electric shower and EV charger together may need an upgrade from the network operator.
- Consumer unit space. New heating circuits need spare ways and suitable protection.
- Earthing. The earthing arrangement must be suitable for the new equipment.
- Existing circuits. Anything showing poor test results should be fixed before more load is added.
Start with an EICR
An EICR before installation tells you, and your heating installer, whether the existing installation is in good order. It avoids surprises on installation day.
